“Project Skilled Hands”
Intensive residential training at Kshamata’s SDC (Skills Development Centre)
There are a number of women who need livelihoods but also need intensive training on both vocational skills and life skills. Kshamata trains women at its SDC, a residential facility, on Life Skills, Vocational Skills, Job preparedness and on-the-job training. Women at SDC stay at the premises, manage their own accommodation and cooking (financial support and monitoring from Kshamata), and learn to live independently. For the first month they are provided intensive Life Skills training, after which they are trained in different professions and placed in different organisations. Typically, women tend to get employment in over the counter retail, assistant cooks/chefs, beauticians. A few get into self-employment related areas – food products, crafts etc. women at the SDC are sent to specialised vocational training programmes individually, based on their preferences and aptitudes, and supported in finding placements.
Kshamata follows up with the women for at least 6 months post placement, to ensure that the employment is sustained, and to provide a support system.
